Celebrating Osoyoos Lake

Okanagan residents are being encouraged to attend a free event celebrating Osoyoos Lake, this month.

Osoyoos Lake Appreciation Day, held by the Osoyoos Lake Water Quality Society, is set to take place on May 21.

“We have an outstanding roster of guest speakers including Osoyoos Indian Band Chief Clarence Louie, Osoyoos Mayor Sue McKortoff, Oroville Planning Commissioner Arnie Marchand and keynote speaker, Okanagan Basin Water Board executive director Dr. Anna Warwick Sears," said Birgit Arnstein, president of the society.

The event is to promote public awareness of the lake, focusing on conservation, pollution and invasive species such as quagga and zebra mussels.

And the public will be invited to board the society's boat, used weekly throughout the summer months to test five regions of the lake for temperature, dissolved oxygen, clarity, pH and conductivity.

The Osoyoos Lake Information Stand will be unveiled by McKortoff, and there will be a kids zone with face painting and a bouncy castle.

Judy Dallas, wife of the late Lionel Dallas, co-founder of the society, will serve the 25th anniversary cake.

Entertainment will be provided by Route 33 from Trail.

The event is from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 21 at Gyro Park in Osoyoos.
